Smoky Joe Award 2023
The Eugene Dupuch Law School (EDLS) was honoured to present Chief Justice of The Bahamas, Sir Ian Winder Kt., with the Smoky Joe Award 2023 for his distinguished service and contributions to EDLS and the Council of Legal Education. In 2009, Sir Ian joined EDLS as a full-time faculty member. Over the years he was a Course Director for Landlord and Tenant, Civil Procedure and Practice I, and Civil Procedure and Practice II. Justice Winder also coached several moot teams and served on various committees of the Council of Legal Education. After his appointment to the Bench, Justice Winder continued as an Associate Tutor at EDLS until his appointment as Chief Justice in August 2022. The Smoky Joe Award is named after the late Hon. Eugene Dupuch Q.C. who was given the name “Smoky” after his weekly humorous commentary called “Smoky Joe Says”. EDLS inaugurated the Smoky Joe award in 2012. It is presented to people who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession and have provided outstanding service to the Council of Legal Education and/or the Eugene Dupuch Law School.
