The primary purpose of the ADR Clinic is to expose students to an alternative method of resolving disputes (with a focus on negotiation and mediation), while giving them the skills to do so. The ADR Clinic provides first-hand instruction and experience to students and is designed to help them understand the advantages and limitations of Negotiation and Mediation as dispute resolution tools. Students will better appreciate each process and will be better able to advise their clients as to the clients’ resolution options.
The secondary purpose of the Clinic is to provide another avenue of service to the community, especially to those without the resources to address or deal with potentially litigious conflict. An ancillary long-term purpose is to provide exposure to the community and training to those persons interested in managing conflict by mediation.
