THE HON. LLOYD BARNETT O.J. LECTURE SERIES

The Honourable Mr. Justice Peter Jamadar, J.A., Judge of the Court of Appeal, Trinidad and Tobago, feature speaker at the 12th annual Dr. The Hon. Lloyd Barnett O.J. Lecture, challenged legal professionals to consider the question, “Why are we educating people to become lawyers in the Caribbean?”

His speech, entitled ‘Building Jigsaw Puzzles and the Caribbeanization of Legal Education’, was held on September 7th, 2017 at the Trinidad Hilton, on the occasion of the 49th annual meeting of the Council of Legal Education. The thought-provoking address explores the role of Law Schools in driving societal change. Jamadar advocates for the deliberate ‘incorporation of social science insights including literary and cultural expressions into the interpretation and application of law’. He challenges Law Schools to create an environment where ‘Creative Legal Conversations flourish’ turning law students into progressive leaders that transform society using the law as a change agent.
