Environmental Law Clinic Essay Competition

The Environmental Law Clinic, one of the specialists clinics of the Legal Aid Clinic at the Eugene Dupuch Law School, hosted the third annual Student Essay Competition in March 2023. Students of grades 10-12 from public and private schools in The Bahamas were challenged to write a 750 –1250-word essay on the topic “Pollution is the inevitable price to be paid for economic growth and development.” Students were encouraged to use one example of an incident involving land or sea pollution in The Bahamas; and had to critically discuss whether the laws in The Bahamas were sufficient to reduce pollution and safeguard against future environmental damage.

The essay competition was well-subscribed and students submitted well-articulated essays.

The top 3 finishers in the competition were: Daly G.E. McCartney of St. John’s College- 1st place winner; Lester Arnett of Aquinas College – 2nd place winner; and Dellon Evans of Aquinas College – 3rd place winner. Congratulations to all of our participants.
