EDLS STUDENT PROFILE

David WhymnsSergeant David Whymns, family man, and marriage counsellor is expected to graduate from the Eugene Dupuch Law School in September 2016 after having just graduated in May, with a Masters of Ministry in Christian Counselling from the Jacksonville Theological Seminary.

David, a hardworking father of three, completed Law School while studying for his Master’s degree and working at night. When asked how he was able to find the balance to cope with the rigors of work and study, he said “Find what you love and do it. That way you’ll give it your all.”

David and his wife are Directors of the Marriage and Family Life Ministry at the Deliverance Tabernacle.  He has a keen interest in Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. “A breakdown in communication is one of the major problems affecting the families that I counsel. I work with them to address their issues because I believe that taking legal action should be a last resort,” said David.

“As an officer I am innately disciplined but my experience at EDLS has made me even more so and the rigorous programme drove me to succeed. The staff also has a great depth of knowledge and exemplifies professionalism on a daily basis.” Identifying Civil Procedures II as his favourite course David remarked. “Many of the courses at the Law School are designed to prepare students for real-life practice.   During this course I had the opportunity to go before Justice Ian Winder to make application on a submission. An experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from immensely.”

“I am a blank page, I love to learn, I am a sponge,” said David, as he reflected on his experience at the recent Exit Seminar for 2016 graduands. “We had the opportunity to hear from legal practitioners. I really appreciated how candid they were about the challenges that they faced early in their careers. We were encouraged to know ourselves, understand our role in the workplace and most importantly to be teachable.”
