CLE CHAIRMAN SPEAKS ON RULE OF LAW FRAMEWORK

reginald-armour-croppedReginald Armour S.C, Chairman of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) delivered the 11th Dr. The Hon. Lloyd Barnett O.J. Lecture, on the occasion of the 48th annual meeting of the Council. The annual lecture which honours the distinguished career of the former CLE Chairman, took place at the St. James Club, Antigua & Barbuda, on September 1st, 2016.

On September 3rd 2016, Reginald T. A. Armour, current President of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago was elected Chairman of the CLE which in fulfilment of its Mission, operates the Eugene Dupuch Law School (Bahamas), Hugh Wooding Law School (Trinidad & Tobago), and the Norman Manley Law School (Jamaica).

The mission of the Council of Legal Education is to facilitate the development of competent legal practitioners for the region who, appreciating their responsibility as members of an honourable profession and recognizing the needs of their socio-economic environment, are inspired in the pursuit of excellence, the maintenance of high ethical standards, the promotion of social justice and the strengthening of the rule of law.”

Mr. Armour is Senior Counsel of the Bar of Trinidad & Tobago and is the Head of Marie de Vere Chambers. His areas of practice include Commercial; Constitutional and Public Law; Administrative Law; Commissions of Inquiry; Industrial Relations Law; Intellectual Property Law and Electoral Law: Litigation Advocate; Legal Consultant and, as Advisory Counsel. He is passionate in his commitment to the Rule of Law and has served on the Bar Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the Legal Aid & Advisory Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, the Law Commission of Trinidad and Tobago and is a member of the Ad Hoc Consultancy Team, appointed by the University of the West Indies Institute of Business. He is also a published author and has written extensively in the areas of public law and labour relations.
